Video by Celeste Boursier-Mougenot in which 40 wild birds (finches maybe?) play an electric guitar.
Ignore the terrible article. It's only included because the BBC website doesn't seem to provide a way to embed videos.

Your fingerprints aren't just for looks and convenient biometric identification!
... fingerprints act like signal processors, conditioning the mechanical vibrations so that the Pacinian corpuscles can best interpret them. It's this optimisation process that allows us to sense textures with a spatial resolution far smaller than the distance between Pacinian corpuscles in the skin.

Ulrich Haarbürste has written the definitive set of stories about wrapping Roy Orbison in cling film. This has been kicking around the 'net forever but it's never made it to the Pig before.
If you like short stories about wrapping Roy Orbison in plastic then this link will not disappoint. Otherwise it probably will.
Story 2 is my favorite.

When the US landed a man on the moon the Ruskies apparently shelved their own manned lunar mission and pretended it never happened. Here's a set of pictures taken (apparently surreptitiously) in a back room at the Moscow Aviation Institute where the remains of that program are stored.

Mike Judge is back at MTV making new episodes of Beavis and Butthead.
I have seen the top of the mountain. And it is good.

I didn't even know this existed until right now. The song is not particularly special but the video is crazy great.

A new take on the classic.
It all began with an unusual discovery in the 100 acre wood...

Just a youtube video but it made me laugh. For 3:18 you get 20 short films plus some filler material. Awesome!

In case you were wondering what a shitty American pop song would sound like when performed by a Ukrainian polka band.
I can't exactly call it good, but watching it made me really happy.

TVTropes.org is a massive wiki-based repository of all the cliches and recycled bits that make TV and movies tick. Link goes directly to "The Bald of Awesome", which is a good place to start.

Based on samples from thousands of songs, FleshMap has a chart showing the frequency with which various body parts are mentioned in a variety of different genres. No real surprises, but it's interesting for a quick look.

This is my favorite TV show of all time. It's a Canadian half hour sitcom about some guys that live in a trailer park. Try it and you will love it.

A short story by Peter Watts based on John Carpenter's epic
The Thing, which was in turn based on John W. Campbell's
Who Goes There.
It's an interesting and thoughtful take on the movie that I quite enjoyed.

Detailed instructions for making and using a special hat that keeps aliens from reading your mind.
I heart the internet.
Aliens will try to stop you from wearing the helmet both mentally and physically. Remember that they can read your mind. Before you make one they may try to influence you that you don’t need one. Once you start wearing a helmet they may harass you or perhaps threaten to kill a pet in retaliation. They are good at manipulating your spouse to have a conflict with you about wearing the helmet.

A pretty awesome music video.
This is the best thing to come out of Japan since those porta-potties that turn into jet skis

An incredibly vulgar music video animated in a style reminiscent of classic Lucasarts games.
Did I mention it's incredibly vulgar? Be forewarned.

Discovery article about David Knighton, a surgeon who is developing systems that use sphagnum moss to clean pools, spas, and even drinking water!

A surprisingly entertaining claymation by Takena Nagao.
A pretty female cat gets into trouble. What's gonna happen?
It's a sexy and violent sexploitation clay-animation!

Australian scientists claim to have developed a new diagnostic tool that can detect and differentiate schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar disease among others.
It works using a probe that goes in your ear and reads electric potentials from your tibula nucleus. They then disrupt your balance and watch the evoked potentials, which apparently form different curves to indicated different mental illnesses.
If it really works this would be a huge leap forward in diagnoses of mental illness.
