Spike Jonze Skateboarding Videos
Spike Jonze Skateboarding Videos
Some old skateboarding videos directed by Spike Jonze, the director of "Being John Malkovich" and the upcoming "Where The Wild Things Are."

I had always thought that skate videos, by definition, were the second or third dullest thing in the world to watch. But these clips made me totally rethink that - they're clever and unique enough to show that the subject matter itself isn't inherently boring.

First is "Invisible Boards," where the boards have been digitally removed to make the skaters look like they all have a particularly awesome superpower.

"Magic Board" is a pass-the-camera sort of thing with some pretty hilarious segments:

My personal favorite is this one, which combines slow motion, large explosions, and cool music into something almost... transcendental. I never thought a skate video could be beautiful, but this one is, in its own way.

I love the last one-- I feel bad for those skaters though. One of the guys looks like he was rubbing his blinded shrapnel-impaled eyes after the explosion.

But really, what about that thumbnail? Where can I get a suit like that??

Yeah... WTF Ben!

The guy in the thumb is (probably) Jean-Yves Blondeau, wearing his homemade "Buggy Rollin' Suit". This video (with Daft Punk soundtrack) will tell you all about him.

Wow, thanks Bob. I just googled for "skateboard" images and posted the coolest one that came up. Honestly, I think that video trounces the ones I posted - Spike Jonze found a way to make me interested in watching skateboarders, but this guy's invented a whole new sport. And a particularly awesome one at that - why it hasn't caught on yet is beyond me.

It looks incredibly, unbelievably, insanely dangerous. But then again, so does skateboarding and people love that.

I'd love to see a team combat sport where everybody is wearing those suits.

I love skate videos, and the creativity of spike jonze is continually impressive. magic board is one of my favorites of all time. only slightly beaten by the one at the end of a transworld video where they play "carry the zero" by built to spill is also excellent.

who need grammar, anyway?
