"Even though Apple suggests Mac users without Leopard buy the $229 Mac box set to get Snow Leopard, anyone can purchase the $39 Snow Leopard disc and install Snow Leopard in its entirety without having already installed Leopard."

I ordered this to upgrade from Tiger, so I will test the claim and let you guys know.

Got the CD and installed Snow Leopard, it is indeed the full OS and allowed me to upgrade from Tiger. I am now allowed back into the Mac Nerd club with my new and fancy operating system.
How's it working? I want to upgrade for the alleged speed increase, but I fear the possible conflicts with pre-64bit apps. I was planning to wait a week or so until the reports come in about how it interacts with my core productivity apps, for example CS3.
Any problems so far or is it smooth sailing?

I heard that there were some 64-bit apps that won't work but didn't see any CS3 on that list. I also saw that you can (temporarily) enable the 64-bit kernel by holding down the 6 and 4 keys during start-up. Not sure how much that gets you in the way of compatibility though.
I found this handy wiki-based list of applications that do/don't work under Snow Leopard.
