Interesting blog about hackers (mostly just DIY stuff, not like Conficker) linking together and maintaining shared common areas. Kind of a cool concept, like a permanent LAN party. Anyone interested?

Their main site is down so I couldn't look to see if there were any in SD but sounds like it would be fun.

Hmm, I am interested actually...the rent sharing to get a warehouse space is a great idea.

Even apart from all the tools and warehouse space, just having a community of people interested in and knowledgeable about technical things would be an awesome resource. These days you can get a lot of that on the internet, but there's no substitute for someone being able to look at your project in person and tell you why it's not working.
