Garfield Minus Garfield
In keeping with the "strange variations on Garfield comics" theme, here is a site where all characters except Jon have been digitally removed from the strip.

Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is an even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life? Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle. Let’s laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness in a quiet American suburb.

It actually gets funnier when you take Garfield out.

Along the same lines is Arbuckle: classic Garfield strips redrawn by various artists with Garfield's thought bubbles removed. Suddenly Jon is just a crazy desperate loser who talks to his pets.

Here's a site that retells "Peanuts" strips in the style of Charles Bukowski. It's probably more amusing if you're a big Bukowski fan, but I'm not, so I don't really feel like giving it its own post. Interesting concept, though - and it's strange that this whole "twists on popular comic strips" thing seems to be a growing trend.

Peanuts by Charles Bukowski

I only know tangentially of Bukowski. It seems like whoever did those basically took Peanuts and sucked the funny out.

I have a few albums of him reading his stuff. It's basically just him cursing a lot and talking about things he doesn't like, sometimes in the form of bad poetry. The albums are pretty amusing, though, because he has this whiny, nasal, extremely goofy voice. Unfortunately, I don't think that his funny voice is the reason that he's so highly respected, it probably has more to do with trendiness and hero worship.

I don't even like Garfield comics at all and never have. However, with Garfield removed, I find these comics excellent. Does he update these, because I wanted to read more!

I found that link three days ago, and since then it has been updated three times. It appears to be daily. Yes!
