Nicholson endorses Clinton
Nicholson endorses Clinton
Jack Nicholson put together a video of his own movie clips, apparently telling us about why we need Hillary Clinton as our next president

It's kind of silly. I mean, I don't think I'd really trust shady unstable characters like the Joker, Jack Torrance, or the guy from "A Few Good Men" to tell me who to vote for. Also, it makes the "empty rhetoric" attacks on Obama a little hypocritical, since the message doesn't say much of anything. Of course, that's hardly new in politics.

Naturally, there have already been parodies, the one below for example. The original makes pretty obvious source material for internet pranksters - really, all Nicholson is doing is providing Obama supporters with tons of comic cannon fodder.

Clinton's getting pretty desperate.

All I can say is wow.

My favorite part is at the end of the Reagan ad where he adds on "... If there is a bear." Because I guess there might not be one.

Hmmm, I really don't remember bears being that much of a threat to America in the 80's... but imagine if Reagan hadn't done something about the bear problem, the bears would be running our country now. We'd all be forced into hard labor camps raising honey bees and picking berries for our bear masters. Thank God for Reagan!

I prefer to make my decisions based on actual information, not on people that I care nothing about except for their entertainment or sports talent. I think it's very sad that celebrities today, not being elected elected officials, wield as much PR value as they do. Just goes to show you how sad our country has become. I, for one, am sure glad Shawn Penn went and visited Sadam to make sure he was being treated fairly. I really believe him more than the military and political figures who said the same thing.

I agree, this does nothing but give ammo to the other side. It looks like a video clip a 5 year-old made and just attached a recent Jack clip to the end.

Where was the production information, isn't that necessary for political commercials?

They have to say who paid for it, but I don't know what the rule is if it's just released on the internet. It seems unlikely to me that it's a real official ad though since they would have to license all of those clips they used, probably at great cost.

I agree with you that Jack Nicholson is no more qualified than anyone to endorse a presidential candidate, but I think you're off base with your Sean Penn comparison. In that case Penn was there as an observer - not in the capacity of an expert, but in the capacity of someone who could probably be trusted not to lie. Or at least not to lie in the same way that the military would. He's a guy who is well known and has a known liberal bias. So if the military is in fact treating Saddam well and wants everyone to know it, it makes sense to bring in a guy like that to have a look and say yep, everything's cool here.

What you need is celebrities who you can both agree with and know the art of the chaos dunk!

Six more years and he'll be running for governor.

0
Agreed. But really, whose fault is it that these celebrities have so much power in swaying politics? It's clearly the fault of those who listen to them, rather than the celebrities themselves. Personally, I think Sean Penn has every right to offer up his (non-professional) opinion on the situation in Iraq, but I don't think his thoughts should hold any more sway than those of Bob Johnson at 7-11. If you're a voter and you take the views of anyone at face value - whether they are a General, a movie star, a politician, or a factory worker - then maybe you shouldn't be voting.

Hey, don't bad mouth Bob Johnson from 7-11. I think he should be our next president.

Good point though, I agree, people should be less like cattle .
