Camino: One week later
A one week follow-up on my switch from Firefox to Camino, the mac-optimized mozilla browser.
I'm still using Camino after my switch from Firefox one week earlier (see previous post. All my first impressions still stick, I am happy with the speed of the new browser and the 1-to-1 port of the mozilla rendering engine. All pages load the same and AJAX functionality remains consistent. Regarding AJAX, Camino definitely wins for speed here, all my Gmail and Google Apps run much faster.
The only thing I miss is my "Better Gmail" firefox extension that allows me to set my mailto: links to open in Gmail. Oh well, I have to compromise somewhere.

I didn't notice the speed boost for AJAX that you mentioned; Gmail seemed just as laggy as ever.
The interface is basically the same, but everything seems a little bit cruder in Camino. For example the tabs are smaller than I'd like and the tab bar doesn't respond to trackpad scrolling when it's overloaded.
It didn't ask to import my bookmarks from Firefox. I'm sure there's an easy way to tell it to do that, but it would have been nice if it asked.
And to top it off, the icon doesn't look as cool in my dock as the Firefox logo.
