Microsoft Reveals "Surface Computer"
Good to see some new computer solutions from Microsoft-- this is an interesting use of existing technology, but in its format, encourages a shared computing experience (not to mention the tactile analogies of a tabletop).

This looks like everything I want a computer to be. Here's the best comment I've seen about this so far on some other page:

this is really going to change paper football.

And you can set a drink on it. Here's a video I found:

Wow that video really shows off the technology. I really like the camera interface and the file management functionality...just set your camera and drag files from it. The whole gesture zoom and move thing wasn't explained well with still photos; I am even more impressed now!

Wow, you know the part that is the most impressive is at the end where they have the glass block that they pick up off the display and move it around the other blocks.  If you watch, the "shadow" on the display follows the same motion, even though they're not touching the display any more.

Those screens are really cool too.  I don't doubt that guy when he says they'll have wallpaper touch screens in every hallway, they're getting close to 'printed' lcd's as it is.  But yeah, the multi-touch and wireless connection managing is really incredible.  I like it, its something different.  Its like that answering machine that instead of listing the messages in a list, puts them into bubbles that you can move around and prioritize visually on the screen.  Pretty cool stuff.

Seems like it could be a hacker's dream though, kind of makes you wonder how secured it all really is.

"Redmond, Washington" eh? If all goes well, the Awakening of the magic/technologic renaissance shall begin soon in Seattle. Get your Alpha-ware data jacks ready, chummers!
