John W. Campbell's "Who Goes There?"
The book that inspired "The Thing," which I think is one of the best horror movies ever made.

I've been looking for a book containing this story for years. Now I've found it and I *still* haven't read it. But perhaps you people will find some time to enjoy it before I do.

Campbell, by the way, was a big-time pulp sci-fi publisher who helped launch Asimov, Heinlein, etc.

I read the first chapter and so far it's pretty good, and somewhat different from the movie. I'll definitely finish it later.

Original link is dead, but for those wanting to read the story here are two more chances:
Nicely formatted at scaryforkids.com or plain text at outpost31.com.
